About Ms. Kennedy
Ms. Kennedy teaches sixth grade math for the Penguins. She is from Mahomet, Illinois (a town about 10 miles west of Champaign). Ms. Kennedy has a degree in Middle Level Teacher Education from Illinois State University with endorsements in math and science. She LOVES Spanish (partly due to her Mexican blood) and has traveled to Mexico, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica to serve in the mission field, help others, and further her speaking skills. Ms. Kennedy LOVES elephants, the Big Ten, music, salsa dancing, traveling, her church, the Champaign area, the Jefferson Middle School Jaguars, and the PENGUIN TEAM!
Course 1 Math
Basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) are reviewed and expanded. Decimals, fractions, numeration, and number theory are focused upon for mastery learning. Measurement, geometry, statistics, percentage, integers, algebra, and probability are introduced. Math connections, math communications, critical thinking, math reasoning, and problem solving are stressed in each area of study. Technology, including calculators and computers, is used as appropriate. Numerous real-world applications utilizing math concepts are incorporated throughout the curriculum.
Course 2 Math
The use of integers, decimals, and fractions are applied to problem-solving situations. Measurement and calculation of area, volume, and surface area are explored. Functions are introduced as they relate to graphs, numeric tables, and equation. The use of the concepts of congruence, similarity, and symmetry are applied to geometric figures. The concepts of data analysis and probability are expanded. Technology, including calculators and computers, is used as appropriate. Numerous real-world applications utilizing math concepts are incorporated throughout the curriculum.
